I need your expertise!  This is a b/w photo of coloured paper shapes for a class project.  It's shot on the floor with a black paper backing.   I have a new camera which I know little about, and I just pressed the button and it shot in b/w.  Lucky accidents.

The problem is I can't hand in a photo; it has to be a drawing.  So how do I get this thing to look like this, but as a drawing?

C'mon all you creative young minds, help me out.

  1. This is quite difficult.

Graphite paper dies not have the omph to get it to look like that and ink is too heavy of a material.

I'm a bit biased on watercolour. However, not to overwhelm yourself, I suggest watercolour pencil.

On the light valued shapes, there's going to be a bit of trouble, I suggest crayons.

If you decide on pencil, putting the paper over a grainy surface (your job is to identify which) may also help.

  2. Thanks, Abner. What I've decided to do is make a transparency of the photo and project that at the critique, and see what happens. It's not watercolor, it's oil pastels on top of a charcoal drawing. I appreciate your input.

  3. PhotoShop has a number of filters that can make photographs look like drawings.
