Building a Woman

4 comments:

  1. As a woman, this crap offends me in SO many ways, I don't even know where to start. LOL I know you didn't mean to offend. But this stuff is crap. "Building a woman"??? No. Not a woman. Building a mannequin. There's a BIG difference. These guys are a joke!

Do you think Eckhart goes to these fashion shows? The Dalai Lama? Hmmm....

    1. I don't know about Mr. Tolle or The Dalai Lama, but I would invite them to my fashion shows if I have the resources.

This is a great opportunity to ask ourselves (after some silence): Why is my reaction to so-and-so like that?

I remember that I felt amusement and excitement when I first saw this, then I quickly googled for the full video. It was actually more of the performance than of the clothes, but drawstrings replacing zippers and buttons is such a small change that affects the way people dress.

  2. I was a fashion design major @ Pratt Institute for a semester. I have since been forgiven. I was turned off to that industry because their values are incredibly shallow and greedy. I think it's honorable that you'd invite Tolle and Dalai Lama, but think of the security! Auwe! (wink)

I see your point about it being a performance; I hadn't thought of that. Interesting idea, though. When is a fashion show never a performance? Or could it be considered performance art? Interesting to explore.

  3. Abner, many years from now, when you have lived a long, long, rich life, you will have lived through your own history of the world, as I have lived mine. You will respond to different issues differently than I would have because you *lived* through them. So your responses to issues will be vastly different from mine, who is presumably dead.

I lived through the beginnings of the Feminist Movement in the Sixties, although it started in the 19th century. You have NO idea what women through to gain the equal rights that we have now, because how could you, you weren't born yet.

There was this great program on PBS tonight where they turned down the possibility of building an AIDS memorial in a garden in San Francisco. It was presumed that because the board members had not *lived* through the horrific time when AIDS reared its head, they just saw it as "an issue". For those, like myself, who lived through it, it was a nightmare, and of course, a memorial would be built.

I think those who have lived through things, and those who have not, will have very different perspectives. One being very passionate, and the other, very mild. With no body to blame; that's just the way life is. But to respect both views is the key.

    Good chatting with you.
